I like to separate each drum onto its own track. Thats so I can do things like side chain the kick drum and add reverb to the hats or snares for example. I’ll still play the drum kit as a unit but separate the tracks after. Lets look at the best drum vsts and talk about whats good about them.
5. Drum Pro

Thats great because it has a lot of choices in terms of kits. It has quite an aggressive sound and a good bunch of hip hop kits. It has everything we need, in terms of making drum tracks. This has been out for a while and I’ve been rocking with this for a while.
4. Artifact Reanimate

I’ve just been using this for extra drums but I just realised that this might be good as the main drums. It has great digital sounding drum sound effects as well as regular kit elements. This is a library for the Kontakt VST, so we’ll need to load Kontakt first, load Artifact inside Kontakt and then rename the track from Kontakt to Artifact.
3. T.Rex 64 | Drum VSTs

Thats an amazing kit because it emulates a commadore computer sound. There is a lot of compression on the sound quality and it can work really well if you have a digital kind of theme on your track. There are many of each kick and snare to choose from. Its super loud out the box but there is a volume and reverb control.
2. Cubase Drum Machine

Thats not a VST but its part of Cubase. Its a new feature of Cubase and its great to create kits with it. We can get whatever sound we need from it if we spend some time tweaking the controls. The sounds are good out the box and there are lots of choices of which sound to customise.
1. EZ-Drummer | Drum VSTs

I started using this again recently because it has more natural sounding drums. This sounds like a real drum kit and there are many extra soundbanks available for it. The GUI is good and its not too heavy on CPU.
