I like to use compressors on tracks to get the best possible sound. There are many great compressors so lets discover the top 5 and talk about whats good about them.
5. Compressor

I use this compressor on quiet tracks because it gives them a boost in the mix. It really gives the instruments a lot more presence and its great for all sorts of tracks. This is quite a standard plugin but it is very useful, especially for upgrading projects from a few years ago.
4. Vintage Compressor

This sounds great on things like the lead guitars because it has a fast attack and release. Its modelled after the real hardware units and has its own sound. Like the compressor, this is part of the channel strip and so its good for fast mixing. I used this on a couple of tracks and it was great.
3. Pro-C | Compressors

I send my guitar tracks to this compressor because it gets them at the right level in the mix. Its by Fab Filter and they have also made many other great plugins like reverb, delay and saturation ones too. I use this on all of my projects these days and its really good.
2. Tube Compressor

This sounds like something in between the compressor and the vintage compressor. It has some character like the vintage compressor but doesn’t boost tracks as much as the compressor. I use this on many tracks via the channel strip to give them an extra small boost in the mix, maybe with some tube saturation too.
1. Black Valve | Compressors

Its another great compressor in Cubase and I put it on all my projects these days. I use it on piano, bass, kick drums and sometimes even vocals. It also has side chain built in like the other ones and there are great presets straight out of the box.
