I like to make lofi tracks sometimes because my audio interface captures buzzy sounds with guitar recordings. Rather than filtering out the buzzy sound I like to leave it there and add even more lofi effects on top of that. Lets look at the best lofi plugins and talk about whats great about them.
5. Bitcrusher

Its an amazing effect built into cubase. It can set the sound on fire and also burn the sound. Sometimes I like to use it on the drums and the tags. It can make the tag sound a bit robotic which is really interesting. I’ve not actually used it on a lofi track that I’m aware of but It’d probably be great on lofi tracks.
4. Retro Fi | Lofi Plugins

We can create some amazing lofi effects with this plugin. It has a lot of interesting settings that we can customise. I like to experiment with the settings in the device and space sections. It has an option for gate and duck which is really great. Gate will introduce the effect with the signal and duck will silence the effect when there is the signal.
3. Quadrafuzz

I like to use this on the drum bus and bass guitar. It has a great selection of factory presets for a lot of instruments. This distortion is very good because it adds a lot of life and character to the sound.
2. Chocolate Milk

That is a great eq and it has a great interface. It has a preset for lofi guitars and it sounds very good for lofi. I like to add it to all busses and automate the bypass switch at certain stages of the track.
1. Grungelizer | Lofi Plugins

Thats another amazing effect built into cubase. Its been there for a while and I’ve used it on a lot of tracks. I usually add it by adding an audio track, calling the track lofi, adding grungelizer to the track and then adding automation to the channel.
Out the box its set to 50% mix which well on quieter tracks but sometimes I set it to 100% mix to get it louder.
