5 Best Instruments Revealed

There are great instruments to record and practice for music production. Here I’ll provide the top 5 and describe the top qualities of each.

5. 🎹Midi Controller🎹

 midi controller

To record VST Instruments and Sampler Tracks in Cubase its great to have a midi controller. Before I had one I used the piano roll to program midis, but its a lot better with one. As a generic remote it can play, stop and record in Cubase with C buttons. I use some of the faders as zoom controls and one of the faders to duplicate tracks. You can set the remote to do many things in Cubase and I set c10 to delete beats.

4. ✨Bass✨

bass

It is great to record the bass because it makes beats sound more natural. Quantizing the bass is easy and fast in Cubase. Recently, I got a bass and have been recording it on my latest tracks. Most of my projects already have a midi bass/sub bass on them – so I record it as a top bass. The tuning stays right for a long time and it sounds great.

3. 🎸Electric Guitar🎸

Sometimes I start a project with the electric guitar because its my main instrument. There always seems to be a new chord pattern or melody to record. It sounds amazing in cubase – especially with some eq and compression. For quality, I tune it with room piano vst before recording it. It sounds different to an acoustic guitar because there is less fretboard sound when changing notes.

2. 😀Acoustic Guitar😀

Acoustic guitars are always great to record. It has an eq and a built in tuner. The sound is incredible, there are also many great compressors and effects to add to it in Cubase. Stereo delay for instance can make it sound super wide and stand out in the mix.

1. 🏟Concert Zither🏟

best instruments concert zither

It is an amazing instrument and sounds great. The tuning is based on the circle of fifths, it has a guitar style fretboard, harp strings and bass strings. I play it on most days for about 10 minutes to practice it. At first it seemed really complicated/impossible to play but after I learnt it and practiced it for a couple of years it sounded unbelievable. I also down tuned the concert zither a tone to preserve the strings.
