The Guitar is an amazing instrument and I like to record it on all of my tracks. Todays blog is about guitars, what makes them great and how I record them in cubase.
Nylon String Guitar

The Nylon String doesn’t have fret markers or an audio output but it has the best sound of them all. Its the best one to take to the lake or out in nature because it is light and easy to transport. I don’t record the nylon string very much because it requires a microphone but its still very good to play/practice with. The strings are soft and they’re the best strings.
Electric Guitar

It is the easiest guitar to play and record. The pickup switch and tone controls determine the initial sound. I like to record it clean with my audio interface and add effects to it in cubase rather than with my effects pedal. It is versatile like the piano and good for any project. There is a great device for it called the ebow and it can make it sound like a violin.
Electro Acoustic Guitar

It has a great sound and its easy to record because it has an audio output. Its got a great sound like the nylon string acoustic and it can easily be recorded like the electric, so its the best of both. I’ve recorded my electro acoustic on many many tracks and it always gets the job done.
Effects

There are many great stock acoustic and electric guitar effects chains in cubase. I used them for guitar tracks on many of my projects. After experimenting for a while I discovered the effects and settings to get the best sound. I like to parallel compress guitar tracks to make them more audible and use send effects like reverb/delay/stepfilter to add a bit of character.
