Sometimes we find that our kick drum isn’t loud enough in our mix. We want to boost it and still maintain a balanced mix. Well we can do that by adding harmonics. So lets look at harmonics generators and discover how they can add presence to our tracks.
5. Subculture Bass | Harmonics Generators
Thats a great new plugin that can generate subs for the bass. It has a fast algorithm that can detect the notes of the track. And it can process the signal to give us the subs that we need. There are a lot of presets so we can test the plugin. And it can also work with the kick drum as well.
4. Synthesizer Bass
This is like a manual version of what subculture does. We can set up a synthesizer in a way that it can support the bass line by generating subs for it. Lets use vari audio to extract the bass notes to midi. We’ll need to spend some time adjusting the notes we extracted but it will be worth it.
3. White Noise Snare
Our acoustic snare sounds great but it is too low in the mix. Lets keep this snare and boost it with white noise harmonics. We can create an audio track called Snare Harmonics. Then we can add the test generator and a gate to that. Lets sidechain the snare as an input and go from there. We should roll the fader very low for this track.
2. Clap Snare | Harmonics Generators
Lets find a clap sample to go with our snare. We can add this on top of the white noise harmonics. We’ll just need to copy the snare notes onto the clap and then mix it in. Now our snare sounds great and we’ve got what we need.
1. Sine Wave Kick
Thats similar to the white noise method. This time lets choose sine wave in the test generator. Lets find the key of our track and type that into the frequency (C#0 for example). Then lets add the gate with sidechain input from kick. And lets also save the effects chains.
